Advanced Rider Training School - Bike Prep

Paddock-IMG 4590

Bike Preparation Policy

It is your responsibility to ensure your motorcycle is safe and suitable for a day of cornering school. All bikes must:
- pass a technical inspection from an ART approved/designated individual;
- pass a Calabogie Motorsports Park (CMP) administered sound check; and
- be properly prepared including having painter's tape over all reflective surfaces, lights and speedometer.

Please note - No refunds will be offered for bikes not meeting safety or suitability requirements on the day of the event.

Motorcycle Technical Inspection Prior to 27 May 2024

Your motorcycle must be in excellent condition and must pass a visual inspection by an ART 2024 approved individual. This inspection will help ensure your personal and group safety and minimize the disruption that might occur in the event of a mishap on the track. Your bike will not be allowed on the track unless approved by our club.

With very few exceptions, technical inspections must be performed prior to the day of the event (between 28 April 2024 - 27 May 2024).   We are planning an inspection day on 27 April 2024 at the coach's place in Ottawa (65 Westward Way).

Register for your April 27th inspection slot here - thanks to all who participated.

For out of town participants (Toronto or Montreal area) there will be a club inspector at the track on May 27th. This will also be for those who require re-checks to ensure any deficiencies found on initial inspection are corrected.

If you are in the Ottawa area and you could not attend on April 27th, you can reach out to a club approved inspector. We highly recommend that all participants have their inspection done early to ensure there is time to rectify any deficiencies that may be found. For reference, you may download the inspection form and have a look at what we will be inspecting.

Motorcycle Prep on the day of ART

Sound Check
 - Prior to being allowed on track your motorcycle must pass a sound check.  This check is administered by CMP.  If you have a stock exhaust system in good repair you should have no issues.  If you have an aftermarket system be aware that you may have issues.

Sound testing is available between 7am and 9:30am SW of the Turn21 store and fuel pumps.

After a successful test the CMP employee will place a small sticker on the front of your bike.

Painter's Tape! - Prior to going on the track for ARTS you must tape over any reflective surfaces, lights and speedometer. If transporting you bike, this can be done at home. If riding your bike to ART please allow sufficient time to complete this in the morning prior to 8am.

Please bring a roll of quality painter's tape for this purpose. A drying rag is also recommended incase of wet conditions to assist in getting the tape to adhere.

What to tape?

  1. all reflective surfaces
  2. all lights - headlights, taillights, signal lights etc)
  3. speedometer readout.

This will help ensure you are not distracting other riders with your lights and as importantly, you are not distracting yourself by looking at your speedometer.

Tape lights and reflective surfaces

Tape all your lights and reflective surfaces!

Luggage - Please remove all luggage that can be removed from you bike. There will be sufficient space in your assigned paddock area to safely store you bags. This includes top boxes, panniers, tank bags etc.

Accessories - Please remove any add-on items that are temporarily attached to your bike. Example may include: cell phones or GPS devices. We do not want theses item to distract you or to become a hazard on the track to other riders should they become detached from you bike.

A Note on Tire Pressure - Please ensure that your tires are inflated properly.  Your cold tire pressure should be safely within the motorcycle manufacturer's recommended tire pressure range for your solo riding weight.  Many street riders keep their tires above manufacturer's maximum recommended pressure.  While this may give you some additional mileage, you are sacrificing traction which is never a good thing on the street or the track.

Other IMPORTANT INFORMATION about your bike

- In the unlikely event of a crash, your bike and gear must be completely re-inspected before you will be allowed to continue.

- If you bike is leaking fluids of any kind you will not be allowed on (or back on) the track until the problem is rectified and your bike is re-inspected.

- If you show up will worn out tires tires you will not be allowed to participate.

In fairness to all participants, failure to adhere to any technical requirements or procedures at any time will disqualify you from riding in this event and your money will not be refunded.
